With its sailplane-like wings, the U2 can be a very difficult aircraft to land. To make landing easier, a second U2 pilot, in a high-performance car, chases the landing U2 down the runway, to report the aircraft’s precise position. For many years the Air Force used Mustang SSPs for this. My artwork shows a U2 in the air in the background.
